D&D: Adventurers Anonymous
A Dragonborn pirate whose life radically changed after a deal with the Devil
Captain Klax Harrow does not abide questions regarding his origins. However, he first came to notoriety over 20 years ago as the First Mate to the dreaded Dwarven pirate Gravebeard. Gravebeard and Klax menaced the cities along the coast for several years before a band of adventurers managed to catch up to them and put a stop to their activities. Gravebeard was captured and sentenced to death, but Klax managed to escape. He then spent the next few years laying low and biding his time, becoming a smuggler and a thief, but still the sea called to him. During one of his smuggling operations, Klax came into possession of an map that described the location of an ancient temple filled with vast treasures and wealth. Calling in favours and debts from many of his contacts, Klax was able to secure a ship and a crew for his quest. They sailed to the island, and using the map, were able to find the temple. However, the temple was empty, devoid of any treasure save for a seemingly dingy brass orb. The crew, having been promised great wealth and finding none, quickly turned on Klax and mutinied. They severely wounded Klax and left him to die in the temple, clutching at the brass orb. As Klax lay bleeding on the ground, he felt angry: at the lack of treasure, the betrayal of his crew, and the hopelessness of his situation. In desperation and rage, Klax cursed the gods, tossing the bloodied brass orb away. As the orb began to roll away, it began to glow with a hellish light. On that day, Klax’s life changed quite dramatically. He made a deal with a devil – a promise of power and freedom unlike any he had before. He became a Warlock.
